Who’d have thought Entrecard will one day be listed at Sitepoint for auction. I was shocked to see it myself when I found Entrecard on Sitepoint’s Site Auction page. What would be the reason for Graham Langdon to sell it while Entrecard has following stats:

One more thing, we also should not forget that Entrecard has been partnering with many big sites and doing major updates like:

• Partnering with SEZWho : This enabled blog commentors to earn credits by commenting on Entrecard member blogs.
• Releasing Entrebar : By using this firefox toolbar entrecard users were able to visit all the member blogs related their niche and easily drop their cards on them.
• A few months back Entrecard announced that the members can buy Entrecredits directly from them at reasonable rates. And according to me that was a hit.
• Partnership with OIO Publisher to make Entrecredits acceptable for all type of advertising.

If I had that site I would never ever sell it at any cost (I mean I would think of if the buyer gives at least a billion dollars). But when on further on SitePoint you will probably get to know what is the reason. Graham says he doesn’t have enough resources to keep the site going. Graham also says:

I recently met extensively with Venture Capitalists who were going to make a 700k seed investment and a 2-5m follow on Series A investment in 6 months. The deal fell through in the 11th hour, right before the terms sheet, because they lost faith in my ability to execute the plan after a series of tests in which I did not know I was being tested. The valuation we were discussing was 8 million. We were going to open a headquarters, hire 10 people, and go straight to the top. Then it fell apart, and after getting my hopes up, I just haven’t been able to get back on my feet. I’m a wreck and feeling like a failure to come so close only to drop it due to my idiocy.
