Adding a forum to a site sure can be useful if it is a site of the right type. One that has areas that could be expanded on by readers of the site should add in a forum, while one that wants to add in a forum to bring more activity, without having a planned use for the forum, should probably not set a forum up until some demand for the topics planned for the forum is shown.

It’s a good idea to have a forum on that kind of forum system. I had mine based on free script and was on vacation for 2 weeks. Some script-kiddies found it was a bit outdated and I had several hours spent on removing spam. Forums listed here are usually updated in few hours after security flow is announced.
